Not long after it was reported that the 2021 Ford Bronco will get a turbocharged 2.3-liter four, a source close to the development of the vehicle says that a Raptor variant is also in the works.

The Fast Lane Car claims to have received word that the Bronco could also be sold with a twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 alongside the aforementioned 2.3-liter. This engine, already powering vehicles like the Edge ST and certain F-150 models, could pump out around 335 HP and 380 lb-ft (515 Nm) of torque when used by the Bronco, figures certainly fitting something bearing the Raptor moniker.

If a Ford Bronco Raptor does see the light of day, it would likely be more off-road-focused than lesser Bronco models. Consequently, it would feature bespoke suspension components, new wheels and tires, and likely some more aggressive styling akin to the existing F-150 Raptor and Ranger Raptor. A 10-speed automatic transmission is expected.

At the same time, one source states that Ford is considering fitting the Bronco with the Mustang’s 5.0-liter Coyote V8 as well. That sure sounds enticing, but a decision has yet to be made.

The Blue Oval is reportedly preparing the Bronco to go head-to-head with the Jeep Wrangler and, as part of this, the off-roader should be offered with a removable top as a homage to the original while also providing customers with one more way to spec out their new SUV and enjoy an open-air driving experience similar to the Wrangler.
