PATNA: Tension gripped Saidpur hostel of Patna University as two students sustained bullet injuries in an exchange of fire in a group clash on Sunday evening.
The injured were identified as Gautam Kumar and Nishant Kumar of Aurangabad district. They have been rushed to the Patna Medical College and Hospital where the condition of Nishant is stated to be critical. Both were stated to be inmates of Saidpur hostel.
The incident took place around 8pm outside a coaching institute located near Bazar Samiti under the Bahadurpur police station area. Guatam received injuries in his abdomen. People ran helter skelter for safety after the indiscriminate firing.
Patna SSP Garima Malik said the incident was a fallout of rivalry between two groups of students. “Efforts are on to ascertain the identity of the attackers, who managed to escape after the incident,” she told this newspaper.
On getting information, Patna City SDPO Baliram Choudhary rushed to the site and inquired about the incident. Additional armed forces have been deployed in the locality in view of the tension in the area following the incident.

Bahadurpur SHO Mahesh Kumar said one of the critically injured has been shifted to a private hospital at Raja Bazar. “We are keeping a close watch on the activities of the hostel inmates after the incident,” he said.
Locals said a similar incident had happened a fortnight ago. However, nobody was injured in the firing. “The police didn’t take notice of the incident, which resulted in Sunday firing,” they said.
