CHANDIGARH: A 12-year-old boy was shot dead allegedly by his wrestling coach at the former’s residence in Paladi Kalan village in
Sonipat district late on Sunday.
The incident took place when the victim, identified as Aayush, was sleeping with his elder sister on the terrace of his house.
The murder could be a fallout of Ayush and his family's refusal to continue Som Prakash Bhardwaj, the accused, as his coach.
Som Parkash has been booked in the case of murder and Arms Act registered against him at Rai police station.
Police said that since February last year, Aayush, the youngest of the three siblings of the family, was learning wrestling under the guidance of Som Parkash at the latter’s place in Dadri district. His mother and brother too lived there.
In the first week of June, Ayush had returned home in Paladi and had informed his family that he did not want to be coached by Som Prakash.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Aayush’s brother had some issue with Som Parkash, hence he had brought him back.
On Sunday, Som Parkash visited the family and made foiled attempt to pursue Aayush and his parents to send him for coaching.
During the late hours, he visited the family again and walked upto the rooftop where Aayush and his sister were sleeping. He shot Aayush from the close range and fled leaving the budding wrestler dead in the pool of blood.
"As on now, we have come to know that the refusal by Aayush led to the incident. We have sent police teams to arrest the accused. Meanwhile, the body of the boy has been handed over to his family after autopsy," said Anil Kumar, SHO of Rai police station.
