DELHI: Delhi government on Sunday decided to extend till July 8 the summer vacation for students up to Class VIII, in light of the prevailing heat wave condition in the city.
The schools were earlier slated to open from Monday. Education minister Manish Sisodia said that while schools will reopen on July 8 for these students, classes will start for senior classes as per the earlier schedule. “Due to the hot weather... summer break for schools in the city has been extended for a week for students up to Class VIII,” he tweeted.
A government circular sent to the schools on Sunday read: “As severe heatwave conditions are prevailing in Delhi, summer vacation has been extended for students up to Class VIII.”

This directive is applicable for all schools in the city, be it government, government-aided, private or those run by the civic bodies. Private schools informed parents about the extension through text messages.
Ghaziabad administration also extended summer vacation for students up to Class VIII for two days (till July 2). However, Gautam Budh Nagar DM B N Singh maintained that there will be no shutdown of schools in the district.
