Awareness drive about crimes against women

Coimbatore: To sensitize college students about the crimes against women, the city police have decided to set up flex banners on college premises.
Police want to create awareness about Section 66 E (Punishment for violation of privacy - whoever, intentionally or knowingly captures, publishes or transmits the image of a private area of any person without his or her consent, under circumstances violating the privacy of that person, shall be punished with imprisonment which may extend to three years or with fine not exceeding two lakh rupees, or with both) of the Information Technology Act.

Police officers are also planning to meet the students to explain about such crimes.
An officer said that they are receiving a lot of complaints from young women. “Most of the women had lodged complaints after their boyfriends threatened them with intimate photographs. Such photos are taken with the consent of the girls. But they are later used to blackmail them. Such incidents should not happen. Those involved in such crimes will be arrested and stringent action will be taken against them,” deputy commissioner of police (law&order) L Balaji Saravanan said.
