The Datsun Go is not only one of the most affordable vehicles in South Africa, but it’s also the least expensive to maintain; servicing your Go will cost about R2047 while replacing all the little hatchback's most common parts will set you back R63 310 in terms of its 'parts basket'.

Behind the Go sits another SA favourite, the Renault Kwid; a service costs R3023, while the parts bin comes to a total of R66 707.

SA’s two favourite passenger cars, the Volkswagen Polo Vivo and Polo, has a servicing cost of R3136 and R4275 respectively. With a parts bin of R111 889, the larger Polo is R30 000 more than the Vivo.

The most popular SUV in SA, the Toyota Fortuner, has a parts bin of R80 171, while having it serviced costs R3743, reports Kinsey.

The Ford Figo, a top rival to the Polo Vivo, has a cheaper parts bin than the VW (R67 807 vs. R80 165) but it’ll cost more to have it serviced.
