With the end of the registration process on June 22, 2019, Delhi University (DU) received 2.58 lakh applications for 62,000 seats this year, whereas, last year there were 2.78 lakh applications for 56,000 seats.

“A large number of CBSE students scored above 95% this year, following which many students who were planning to take admission in the university backed out fearing that the cut-offs may go high this year,” said Somorendra Singh, deputy dean, Student Welfare Department, Delhi University, while talking to Education Times.

“Last year the online registration for various courses had began on May 15, but this year it was delayed to May 30. It created inconvenience for the students who come from different states,” said Singh. The admission process was extended on the orders of High Court (HC) since it had several petitions challenging the varsity’s new admission criteria. However, the university later allowed students to apply for UG courses based on the eligibility criteria of 2018-19.

This year, the university saw a rise in the number of female applicants seeking admissions to UG courses with 1.29 lakh female applicants as against 1.28 lakh male applicants.
