Bentley Continental GT Breaks Pikes Peak World Record For Production Cars

The Bentley Continental GT has raced to the clouds quicker than any other production car, shattering the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record by 8.4 seconds on Sunday.

With Rhys Millen behind the wheel, the GT managed to conquer the 12.42-mile (20 km) long course, with its 156 bends, which starts at 9,300 feet (2,835 meters) and ends at 14,100 feet (4,298 meters) above sea level. His time: 10:18.488.

“This is an amazing finish to a wet, snowy 2019 run at Pikes Peak”, said Millen. “We came here with one goal in mind, and that was to be the fastest production car up the mountain and set a new record. It was an incredible week. Today was a challenge with what Mother Nature threw at us, but the Continental GT held strong all the way to the top, and we are now Number One.”

Racing under number 100, as a celebration to Bentley’s centenary year, this particular Continental GT came in top spec, meaning a 6.0-liter twin-turbo W12 engine with 626 horsepower and 664 pound-feet (900 Nm) of torque, channeled to all four wheels through an 8-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. In a straight line, the car can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and max out at 207 mph (333 km/h).

Last year, the Bentley Bentayga became the fastest production SUV at Pikes Peak. The high-riding vehicle was piloted by the same Rhys Millen, who drove up the course in the Colorado Mountain in 10:49.9. The range-topping Bentayga is powered by the same W12 gasoline-burner, which develops 600 hp and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. Naught to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes only 4.0 seconds and top speed is 187 mph (301 km/h).
