GURUGRAM: Residents of Sector 23A and Bajghera initiated a drive on Sunday to remove
concrete around
trees in the area. The RWAs of these areas have appealed residents to de-concretise trees which are planted along the roadside and on pavements.
On Sunday morning, a 20-year-old tree was uprooted in Sector 23 A after a light gust. On June 13, a number of trees were uprooted because of storm. “We have advised residents to remove concrete around trees. But, we need help from the authorities to make it mandatory for all,” said Bhawani Shankar Tripathy, general secretary, Sector 23A RWA.
Similarly, Bajghera residents also de-concretised trees from Bajghera railway over bridge area.
“Gurugram is infamous for its high pollution level, therefore we decided to take this matter into our hands and start the process of removing concrete around the trees,” said Sanjeev Kumar, a resident.
According to experts, concretisation stops the flow of water, air and nutrients towards the roots of the trees, in turn affecting their natural growth.
