NDA legislators to meet at CM Nitish Kumar’s residence today

PATNA: After nearly a month of shadow-boxing between JD(U) and BJP since the government formation at the centre and cabinet expansion in the state, the two parties have seemingly decided to forget the heartburns and move on.
All the NDA legislators are slated to meet at the residence of CM Nitish Kumar on Monday evening to discuss strategies to counter the expected opposition onslaught during the monsoon session of the state legislature. The meeting would be followed by dinner.
““It has been the traditional practice, but there is also an urgency in this regard this time. Where is the bickering between the two NDA parties? There was some angry ‘dhanaa dhan (clanking of utensils)’ like in every family (!), but everything is over,” BJP legislature party chief whip in the state assembly, Arun Kumar Sinha, said.
There were instances of pinpricks in NDA following the grant of symbolic representation (one berth) to JD(U) in the central cabinet led by PM Narendra Modi and Nitish’s refusal to accept the offer last month.
For the NDA partners, it is immaterial if the leader of opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav would participate in the sittings of the state assembly from Monday. Parliamentary affairs minister Shrawan Kumar denied that there was any real mutual acrimony between JD(U) and BJP, adding that the NDA partners would have “proper floor coordination” in the state assembly.
However, the observation in the political circles is that “camouflaging mutual acrimony” has come about because the opposition parties, following their Lok Sabha poll debacle, might decide to unite to take on the ruling NDA.
For the opposition, it would be done to retrieve the lost ground and, accordingly, mount a spirited onslaught on the NDA combine on the twin issues of the AES and sunstroke deaths during the monthlong monsoon session.

On the opening day of the monsoon session itself, they had made their intentions clear by demanding the resignation of health minister Mangal Pandey for failing to prevent children’s deaths and lack of matching healthcare system pointed out by the Niti Aayog. It is also expected that the opposition parties, which have not met since the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results, would work out proper floor coordination in the two Houses.
As to the demand regarding resignation of health minister, BJP chief whip Sinha said he was recently surprised when a media person asked him if CM Nitish had sought Pandey’s resignation. “But I had faith in the work done by Pandey and in the CM. The resignation demand turned out to be a hoax,” he added.
