Scooters introduced for platform patrolling by RPF at Visakhapatnam railway station
VISAKHAPATNAM: For the first time in Andhra Pradesh, the Indian Railways introduced Segways scooters for platform patrolling by Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Visakhapatnam railway station on Sunday.
The RPF personnel deployed at the Visakhapatnam station will be able to use these Segways for crowd control and patrolling. The decision to introduce these scooters was taken after considering requests from the passengers and instructions from the railway authorities.
Waltair division senior divisional security commissioner Jitendra Srivastava said that the idea behind introducing the Segways Patrolling is serving many purposes including the passengers’ safety and protection of railway properties.
The high-tech patrolling system will increase the mobility and response time of the force as well as it will be helpful in more visible policing, he added.
These Segways are battery operated so eco-friendly.

More staff will be trained for the patrolling through these Segways in coming soon, Srivastava said while adding that there was more proposals in which the patrolling staff would also have body worn cameras with them while doing the patrolling.
Many other modernisation works are soon to be introduced at Railway Station of Waltair division, Srivastava added.
