CHENNAI: Police have launched a search for two men who conned more than 80 people of
78 lakh on promises of jobs abroad.
Police said Melwyn Dias from Hyderabad and Rajvir Singh from Pune, were running a travel firm, Starway Overseas, in Royapettah.
Many youngsters handed over their passports to initiate visa processes, along with 1.5 - 2 lakh to secure placements abroad. However, they found the office locked for the past two days and the mobiles of the accused switched off.
As complaints poured in at the Royapettah police station, officers asked the petitioners to approach central crime branch of the city police. The CCB registered a case based on the complaint of Leondar D Cruz, 54, who worked as a manager at the firm owned by the accused.
