The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has signed a new contract for building the ‘Keeranur flyover’ and completing other pending works on the Tiruchi–Karaikudi National Highway - 210, thus conceding the long-pending demand of the people, newly elected Member of Parliament Karti P. Chidambaram said.

In a statement here on Sunday, he said the National Highway 210 built during the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, had won the acclaim of many for its quality but the non-completion of Keeranur flyover due to some reasons, had been the major shortcoming on the stretch all these years.

Now, he was happy to announce that NHAI has signed a new contract to build the flyover, complete other pending works and maintain the highway after carrying out repair works, he said. The new contractor would commence the work next month and complete it at the earliest, he said.

Quoting officials, Mr. Karti said NHAI had also signed an agreement for laying new National Highway in the Melur – Pillayarpatti stretch.
