Chennai-bound Vaigai Express from Madurai was briefly detained at Tiruchi junction on Sunday after a peahen got stuck in the pantograph of its electric locomotive.
Railway sources said the dead bird was found stuck on the pantograph when the train was entering the junction in the morning. Railway officials acted immediately and the pantograph was lowered after the train came to a halt. The bird, which was charred by then, was removed and handed over to the Forest department.
The incident led to a 20-minute detention of the express train at the junction.
