JAIPUR: After seizing 250 boosters in the city, the problem of
water supply at low pressure seems unresolved. Residents, across the city, have been complaining about the
low water supply. Sunil Kumar from Barkat Nagar said there are problems related to water in his area and low pressure worsens the situation. “We receive water for around 10 to 15 minutes at low pressure. In colony most of the residents use boosters which further decreases water pressure. We are forced to order water tankers once a week,” said Kumar.
Suman Verma, a resident of Kartarpura, said that water comes every alternate day in her area. “Almost all the houses have boosters. This has significantly lowered the pressure of water. Already the timings have been cut short to15 minutes. Government should organise a massive campaign to take action against them,” said Verma.
Public Health Engineering Department’s (PHED) chief engineer, Devraj Solanki assured that department has taken appropriate action. “We have been conducting raids to fine people who use boosters and this will continue,” said Solanki. Due to the scarce rainfall last year, water level at Bisalpur Dam has gone down. PHED has already reduced the city’s water supply by 15%.
However, an officer at PHED said that they face difficulties in tail end areas as the crowd sometimes gather in support of the accused. Officials said that they lack forces to act against those who obstruct justice.
Jaipur district administration, on request by PHED, issued an order to curb the usage of boosters by power cut for 30 minutes during water supply in the areas. However, district administration withdrew the order later citing that the decision might create problems for residents in summers. Therefore the situation has not changed.
