NEW DELHI: In a bid to tackle the traffic mess outside Waste to
Wonder Park in Sarai Kale Khan,
South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to double the entry rates on
Sundays. The civic body argues that the hiked fee will encourage visitors to come on weekdays, thereby reducing the load on entry roads. The move comes after TOI highlighted how poor management was causing traffic jams on the busy intersection. The new entry fee will be applicable from June 30.
As per the new pricing chart, the entry fee for visitors in the age group of 12 to 65 years has been increased from the existing Rs 50 to Rs 100. Similarly, in the case of children between three and 12 years, the fee is now Rs 50 instead of Rs 25. Students who are not from municipal corporation schools will be able to visit the facility by paying Rs 40 instead of Rs 20. These rates will be applicable only on Sundays. The entry for children below three years and senior citizens above 65 will continue to be free. “There is no change for corporation school students. They will continue to enter the park for free,” an official said.
A senior corporation official said, “SDMC has taken the decision to overcome the problem of traffic jam and incidents of vandalism due to heavy rush of visitors in the park on Sundays. The hike in entry fee will help in the smooth movement of visitors in the park and mitigate the problem of parking.” More than 15,000 people visit the park on Sundays, when it has the capacity for only 10,000, he added.
