Nagpur: Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision (RCNV) has been uplifting unprivileged students through scholarships since 15 years and this year, too, it did the same through ‘Project Smiling Faces’. On Friday, it distributed scholarships worth Rs7.5 lakh to more than 250 students, who came up trumps despite the odds. Inspiring stories of such students were highlighted by TOI and acknowledged by RCNV.
“Every year we come across children who are brilliant, but due to financial constraints, they do not pursue studies and instead, start working from a very young age. Education is the most important aspect for the future of children and that’s why we came up with this initiative. We happily reach out to deserving students. Through scholarships, RCNV will continue to lend a helping hand,” said RCNV president Rajiv Behal.
Talent comes naturally and RCNV recognizes this fact and nurtures it by providing both knowledge and wisdom to students of a lesser God.
Among the scholarship awardees, there was Sanchita Dhoble who decided to study. Her dedication and determination was aptly acknowledged and rewarded. She overcame financial hurdles and sparkled in her board exams.
“I could not make my elder daughter study because of monetary problems but I was determined to make Sanchita complete her HSSC. I am thankful to TOI for helping her to get the RCNV scholarship,” said her father Anil.
“She dreams of cracking the MPSC and UPSC exams. She also wants to become a graduate. I’m grateful to Rotary Club for giving us this scholarship,” he added.
Sanjay Zade, another recipient of the scholarship, said, “I have experienced a financial crisis. There were times when we did not have adequate food to eat. At times, we went to sleep hungry. Throughout my academic years, I worked with a catering team. I earned not more than Rs200 per assignment. That job was not a regular one. Today, after getting this scholarship, I feel assured about my future.”
Pallavi Khangar, who also got a scholarship, said, “I was suffering from chickenpox a week before my board exams. It was indeed very tough to concentrate but somehow I managed to score 76%.”
Her proud father Nilkanth said, “My daughter has set an example that nothing is impossible. Times were tough as I am a labourer without a regular source of income. I am deeply indebted to RCNV for helping us with this scholarship. I am now convinced that Pallavi’s wish to crack the UPSC exams will come true.”
