CHANDIGARH: The man who had allegedly hacked a 27-year-old
car dealer to death in full public view in Sector 40 market on Friday is wanted in a kidnapping case for the last three months. He is yet to be caught.
Rajat Tiwari, the prime accused, and Harpreet Singh alias Laddi, who was also caught on camera in the murderous assault on Amit Katoch, had allegedly kidnapped Harsh Goyal of Sector 44 at gunpoint in their car and assaulted him on April 15. Goyal said Tiwari and others had carried out the
crime in retaliation to a brawl that had occurred between them in February this year.
Police had registered a case of kidnapping and under sections of Arms Act against Tiwari and others. Tiwari has been on the run since then.
Goyal claimed Tiwari had been pressuring him to strike a compromise in the case by sending messages through his friends. Goyal had told police about the threats and tactics of Tiwari. But cops still failed to trace him, although they had arrested two accused, including a juvenile, in the case.
On Friday, Tiwari and Harpreet along with four others allegedly chased and attacked Katoch with swords over an old enmity. Katoch was chatting with his friends when the accused arrived in the Sector 40 market.
On Saturday, cops called Goyal to the Sector 39 police station and showed him the footage of the murder. Goyal identified Tiwari and Harpreet among the attackers of Amit.
