Prison official shot son in front of me: Woman

Ajit Singhs’s kin and MLA Simrajit Bains met the DCP on Saturday
LUDHIANA: Mother of slain Ludhiana jail inmate Ajit Singh, who claims to be a witness to her son's killing at the jail on Thursday, has contradicted the version of jail officials that he was rushing towards the main gate of administrative block with a LPG cylinder to either beak it or blast it, when he was fired at.

On Saturday, Ajit's family and Lok Insaf Party (LIP) MLA Simrajit Singh Bains reached the office of deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Ashwani Kapur to give a written complaint against jail officials. They named jail superintendent Shamsher Singh Boparai and deputy jail superintendent Iqbal Singh Dhaliwal in their complaint. Meera Devi, 50, claimed that jail officials shot her son dead in front of her. She said she left home around 10.15am for central jail on the fateful day. On her way, an acquaintance offered her lift to the jail, and she reached the destination by 11.30am. "I saw the main gate open. As I entered, I saw inmates pelting stones and bricks, and jail staff abusing them. Meanwhile, deputy superintendent Dhaliwal asked jail superintendent Boparai for permission to shoot inmates. My son saw me and rushed towards me. He hugged me tightly after which Dhaliwal asked a guard to take him away. A staff member held my son from his neck and pushed him away. In the meantime, Dhaliwal shot at him. My son died in front of my eyes," she claimed before media. "My son was not creating any ruckus... He has been killed illegally... I want justice," she said.
The DCP marked the inquiry to additional DCP-4 Ajinder Singh. MLA Bains said the DCP told them that a magisterial inquiry was on in the case, report of which would be sent to the CM. As the inquiry was on, they could not take any action. Bains said if jail inmates could be booked for attempt to murder, why couldn't jail staff be booked.
