THANE: A 30-year-old man suffered massive head injuries after he was knocked down by a suburban train near Thane station on Sunday afternoon.
Central Railway officials said he was knocked down on the transharbour line. Railway police said he was found unconscious by a rescue team from Thane station around 12.40pm and was rushed to Civil hospital, where he was given basic treatment, but was denied admission citing lack of adequate infrastructure.
It took nearly four hours for the hospital to arrange an ambulance and that vehicle then reportedly broke down midway, following which a 108 ambulance was despatched. It took him to
JJ hospital by 5pm.
A
senior inspector at Thane railway police station said JJ doctors too cited lack of adequate infrastructure and referred him to another hospital. In the meantime, the ambulance was running out of oxygen and the patient’s health was deteriorating, said two escorting cops and ambulance staff.
“The hospital told us it did not have adequate facilities and was insisting we admit him at our responsibility. We were told to take him to another hospital,” said a railway cop.
A
case was yet to be registered by railway police till late night but the railway station made a basic entry. Railway police said they will escalate the matter with seniors.
