Rains Lash Thane-Palghar Region, 2,000 Students Evacuated | A four-storeyed building was today sealed after plaster started peeling in chunks in heavy rains that lashed Thane and Palghar districts, a civic official said. The building is located in Kismat Colony in Mumbra township and all 16 tenements, as well as 2,000 students of a school on the ground floor, were evacuated by the local fire brigade, Thane Regional Disaster Management Cell chief Santosh Kadam said. "The building is around 25 years old. It was in the C-B category of dangerous buildings. It will need repairs," Kadam said.

According to the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), from 8 am to 1 pm, the city received 53 mm rains, the eastern suburbs got 92 mm and the western suburbs recorded 77 mm rainfall. Suburbs of Andheri, Juhu, Vikhroli, Kurla and others received in excess of 100 mm rains during the same period. The IMD Mumbai has forecast a few heavy spells of rains this evening and a wet weekend as rains will continue over the next two days.

Two Killed Due to Heavy Rains in Nashik | Two persons, including a teenage girl, were killed in rain-related incidents in Maharashtra's Nashik district which were lashed by heavy showers for the fourth consecutive day today, disrupting normal life, said, officials. An 18-year-old girl, Rupali Bhoi, a resident of Pimpalas village, was killed when she was struck by lightning on Thursday evening, they said. In the second incident, a 52-year-old man, Puvappa Kalal, was electrocuted near a paan shop in the Mumbai Naka area of the city at around 5 pm on Thursday, the officials said.
