PATNA: A 28-year-old assistant manager of a nationalized bank, Milind Kumar Madhur, was stabbed to death allegedly by a gang of armed robbers on a running train in Lakhisarai district late on Wednesday evening.
The robbers attacked the banker with a knife when he tried to resist them between the Lakhisarai and Sirari stations. An injured Milind managed to inform his colleagues about the attack after the robbers got off.
Milind, a native of Bettiah in East Champaran district, was rushed to the Lakhisarai sadar hospital where he died during treatment.
He was returning from Gaya to Jamui by Gaya-Jamalpur passenger train after attending a meeting with the senior officials of the Canara Bank. Agitated over the incident, the bank employees with the support of the local residents blocked the Lakhisarai-Sikandara Road and disrupted vehicular traffic for three hours on Thursday.
Additional SP of Lakhisarai, Manish Kumar, rushed to the spot to pacify the protestors, who demanded immediate arrest of the killers and proper security to passengers travelling by train at night. The blockade was removed after assurances from the ASP.
Kumar said the body would be handed over to the deceased’s relatives after autopsy. The family members have been informed about the incident. He, however, said the wallet, wrist watch and other belongings of the deceased were found to be intact, which suggested that the motive of the criminals behind the attack on the bank official was to kill him.
The ASP said that the case would be formally probed by the GRP officials posted at the Sheikhpura government railway police outpost as the incident took place under the latter’s jurisdiction. He assured the family that the matter would be taken to the higher authorities and strict action taken against the railway police personnel who were on the train during the incident.
Jamalpur superintendent of railway police (SRP) Aamir Javed couldn’t be contacted for his comments despite repeated attempts.
This is the second such incident in a running train in the state within a week. A passenger identified as Anil Kamti was stabbed to death by a fellow-passenger following an argument over sharing of seat in the general coach of the Pawan Express heading towards Chhapra junction. His body was found lying near a washroom in the train.

The deceased had boarded the train at Darbhanga and was on way to Mumbai. “As soon as the train left Hajipur, a youth attacked Anil with a knife when he was standing near the washroom of the Mumbai bound train. The attacker had boarded the train at Muzaffarpur railway station,” a police official said.
Chhapra GRP police official Chhapra Sanjeet Kumar said, “The two had a tussle over a seat and the victim was stabbed near the toilet in the train. He had boarded the train at Muzaffarpur railway junction,” he added.
