Students of the Goverment Elementary Model School at Vengikal Pudhur in Tiruvannamalai district were in for a surprise on Wednesday when their newly built ‘smart classroom’ was inaugurated.
District Collector K.S. Kandasamy, who inaugurated the renovated school, said that in order to compete with their counterparts, it was necessary to infuse new blood in the form of modern teaching equipments. The facilities will enable students to learn their lessons in a fun and easy way , he said.
The ‘Smart Classrooms’ were developed at a cost of ₹27 lakh by the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj department and served as an attraction for the teachers as well as children.
The school will soon be provided with other infrastructural facilities for it to become a model school in the district. The school, which had 30 students earlier, has seen its enrolment rise by 23 this academic year. The students are given uniform sets, bag and identity cards. The school compound is also replenished with flowers and green patches. Students will register their attendance through a biometric register while CCTV cameras, fitted in the entire campus, will be used to monitor their movement. 18 more schools are selected to get these facilities and the work will start soon, said Mr. Kandasamy.
Chief Electoral Officer, V. Jayakumar, District Revenue Officer, P. Rathinasabapathy, DRDA Project Director B. Jayasudha and District Forest Officer, Krubashankar were among those present on the occasion.
