The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court here on Thursday convicted and sentenced a teenager for abducting and sodomising a minor.
Speaking to The Hindu, Special Judge Sunitha Kunchala said that for the first time in South India, a Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) was sentenced to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor boy.
She said that the offence took place on June 28, 2017, after the boy took the 10-year-old on the terrace of a government school in Barkas on the pretext of playing cricket. “After sodomising the boy, the CCL smashed his head with a blunt object, following which the victim died on the spot,” she said.
Ms. Sunitha said that the incident came to light only after six days, as the CCL hid the boy on the school terrace. “A kidnapping case was registered at Chandrayangutta police station. Police analysed the video footage of the area and found that the boy was last seen with CCL,” she said. He was 17 years old when the offence was committed.
The judge awarded two life imprisonment sentences for unnatural penetrative sexual assault on a minor boy under Section 5 and 6 of POCSO Act and murder. She also awarded two 10 years rigorous imprisonment for an unnatural offence under Section 377 of IPC and kidnapping and seven years of imprisonment for causing the disappearance of evidence.
“All the convictions will run concurrently and till he turns 21, he will be at a juvenile home in Gajularamaram,” the judge added.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad commissioner Anjani Kumar announced ₹20,000 reward for the investigating officer.
