Rotary Vision to give needy students scholarship today

Nagpur: Unstoppable is the word when it comes to describe talented minds. Paucity of financial aid can never stop deserving candidates to pursue their dreams and getting high school education is the first step towards that.
Keeping this in mind, Rotary Club of Nagpur Vision (RCNV) has joined hands with The Times of India to offer scholarships to students, who performed well in this year’s board exams despite their underprivileged condition, on Friday at Chitnavis Centre.
Getting quality education becomes very difficult for underprivileged students due to lack of funds. They are forced to leave schools as their families cannot afford higher education. Many girl students drop out of schools and get engaged in household jobs. Education is a right which no student should be deprived of irrespective of his/her financial stature.
Hence, RCNV and TOI decided to step in by helping such students financially through annual scholarships. It will ensure continuity of their education up to high school, which would pave the way for them to get good jobs in future.
“Project Smiling Faces”, the initiative of helping needy students in continuing their education up to high school, has been going on for the last many years. Under the initiative, students will be given financial assistance up to Rs 3,000. This year, students could get scholarships worth Rs 7.50 lakh with corpus funds of Rs 1 lakh. It could benefit more than 250 underprivileged students spread over 10 institutions.
Nilanjan Bhowmick, chairperson of Project Smiling Faces, said, “The response we got from readers due to the reach of TOI was overwhelming. Over 1,000 students have been benefited by this project. Money isn’t a problem for us but reaching out to students and identifying the needy ones is. The project has also helped make a social change as more girl students are getting empowered for high school education. I am really thankful to TOI.”
Narayan Tiwari, principal of CB Adarsh Vidya Mandir, said, “We are extremely grateful to TOI and RCNV for their noble cause of making education available to the needy. This year, one of my students is getting the scholarship. The reach of TOI has had a vast social impact. The collection of enough funds was possible only because of that.”

Madhu Joseph, principal of Bengali High School, said, “This is a great venture to help deserving yet marginalized students. I congratulate TOI and wish them all the success for this cause.”
RCNV has appealed to the readers to come forward and help such students get the education they deserve.
