Student, 13, is stabbed during a fight at a high school in Brisbane sending classrooms into lockdown

  • The victim is in a serious but stable condition with non life-threatening injuries
  • A 13-year-old male student is in police custody and assisting with investigations 

A student has been stabbed and another is in police custody after a fight at a high school. 

Shailer Park State High School, south of Brisbane, was put into lockdown as a result of the incident on Thursday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the school on Leaf Street about 2.15pm where they found the 13-year-old victim with a wound to his back.

The two students were believed to have been fighting when one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.

The victim was rushed to Queensland Children's Hospital in a serious but stable condition and sustains non life-threatening injuries. 

Parents received a notification from the school shortly after the incident notifying them of the lockdown and assuring students were safe. 

The lockdown was lifted shortly after the incident was resolved and students were allowed to go home at 3pm.

A 12-year-old student was taken into police custody and is assisting police with inquiries.
