NOIDA: A 31-year-old woman was allegedly shot at and killed by her husband and brother-in-law in Phase II area and dumped near a funeral ground around two days ago.
Rani, who worked in a drug manufacturing company in NSEZ, was found badly injured near a cremation ground in Bhangel on Monday when she was returning to her house after work.
Passersby heard her shouting for help and took her to Yatharth Hospital in Sector 110 but she was declared brought dead. A post-mortem revealed a bullet injury in her waist and several other minor injuries.
According to Rani’s brother Yogesh, he received a call from an unknown person around 9.30 pm on Monday informing him about the incident. “A passerby informed me that they heard her screaming for help. We reached Yatharth hospital around 10 pm but it was too late,” he said.
Yogesh told TOI that the family suspects that Rani’s husband Sonu and brother-in-law Gajendra are behind the incident as they had been torturing her over dowry.
While Sonu works in a security guard agency, Gajendra is unemployed and was earlier been jailed along with his parents Raghuvar and Shrimati, and another brother, Jagdeep.
Rani had been staying in Noida with her husband Sonu at a rented accommodation in Bhangel while her in-laws had been staying in Muzaffarnagar’s Budhana town.
“They got married in 2005. However, the marriage was always a troubled one. We spent more than we could in the wedding but her in-laws wanted more, including a car. Further, they were upset that she could not give them an offspring,” he said.
Rani’s family complained that her in-laws regularly used to abuse and beat her. Around three years ago, they had lodged an FIR against Gajendra, Raghuvar and Shrimati in Budhana. The trio had also been jailed.

The matter, however, was resolved after a compromise was reached between the two parties.
Police have lodged an FIR against Sonu and Gajendra under IPC sections 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 302 (murder). Since Rani had no gold jewellery and wasn’t carrying too much cash, they have ruled out the possibility of loot by unidentified assailants.
