Woolcool is encouraging customers to send back its wool boxes and liners to be cleaned and re-used
Green packaging innovator Woolcool has launched a new circular economy scheme allowing customers to return their packages to be used again.
The Staffordshire-based firm uses pure sheep wool to insulate food and pharmaceutical products. Since launching ten years ago, its range of boxes, pouches, envelopes and liners have been used by companies including John Lewis, Unilever, Gousto and Fortnum & Mason.
Under its new Circular Economy Scheme announced yesterday, Woolcool customers will be able to drop off used packaging more than 7,000 stores and collection points operated by the CollectPlus parcel network. The wool will then be washed and prepared for reuse.
"Wool is an amazing material and so we want to make sure we are reusing this as many times of possible," said managing director Josie Morris. "Whilst having the ability to recycle, like turning a material into something new, such as a bin bag or plant pot, is extremely important, the real secret to sustainable packaging is not just recycling - it is re-use, reusing the material as many times as possible and reducing the amount of new material being created."
