MADURAI: A mahila court in Kanyakumari district on Thursday sentenced a 64-year-old man to 10 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in in 2015.
Police sources said the girl was playing in front of her house on May 16, 2015, when Xavier alias Cable Xavier took her to his house and sexually assaulted her.
Seeing the girl crying in pain, her parents took her to hospital where they came to know that she had been was subjected to aggravated penetrative sexual assault.
Later, Xavier was booked under sections 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault), 5(m) (aggravated penetrative sexual assault on child aged below 12 years) and 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
On completion of the trial, sessions judge for the fast track mahila court in Nagercoil John R D Santhosam on Thursday, sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
