MADURAI: V O Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin created a new record by handling 27,546 tonne of rock phosphate in a single day on June 24 (Monday). By doing so, the port surpassed its previous single day handling record of 26,527 tonne rock phosphate set on September 8, 2012.

On Monday, the port handled 1,019 more tonne. MV Ince Kastamonu from Port of Aqaba (Jordan) came to Tuticorin with a parcel of 55,450 tonne and discharged 27,546 tonne Rock Phosphate in a single day using Harbour Mobile Cranes and hoppers.
Chairman of VOC Port Trust T K Ramachandran attributed high level of mechanisation, committed employees and port users as reason behind this success.
