Protest and unrest continues at Allahabad University against student council

ALLAHABAD: The unrest at the campus of Allahabad University, following the decision of the Academic Council to replace the student union by student council, continued on the second day, on Wednesday.

Today, the student leaders of various constituent colleges of AU too joined the counterparts of the main campus in showing their anger over the decision of the AC, taken on Monday.

Starting the protest on the campus, large number of student leaders assembled at the main campus of AU along with the effigy of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ratan Lal Hangloo. They moved within the premises of the campus, shouting slogans against the VC and AU administration.

"This shows the vested interest of the VC and how he intends to silence the voice of the student leaders who have exposed him and irregularities committed by him on different fronts", said Abhishek Yadav, sitting vice president of the AUSU.

The student leaders of AU and the constituent colleges than arrived at the portico of the VC office and staged their agitation for around an hour. They then brunt the effigy of the VC.

The student leaders have warned the varsity administration that they would be beginning a fast unto death from June 27 (Thursday) onward which would continue till the time varsity administration takes back their decision.
