The Gujarat High Court on Wednesday rejected Congress leader Ahmed Patel’s plea seeking deletion of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani as respondents in a petition challenging his election to the Rajya Sabha in 2017.
It rejected his application, saying that Mr. Shah and Ms. Irani, who are now members of Lok Sabha and Union Ministers, were respondents from the beginning of the petition and just by vacating their Rajya Sabha seats, they don’t cease to be respondents.
