Anti-Corruption Movement, Coimbatore district unit, has written to the Deputy Inspector General of Registration, Coimbatore, seeking action against a sub-registrar for taking bribe from a member of the public who went to her office for registering a sale deed.
In its letter, the anti-corruption body said that after the sub-registrar concerned took ₹1 lakh as bribe from the member on June 20, it brought the issue to the DIG Registration’s notice. It was then decided that the sub-registrar could be let off with a strict warning on compassionate grounds and the bribe returned.
It was also decided that the DIG Registration would impose a fine of ₹ 1 lakh on the delinquent officer. But the anti-corruption body had learnt that on the very day – June 20 – the sub-registrar had demanded another ₹ 1 lakh in bribe and had collected it through one of her kin and using the same modus operandi collected ₹ 7 lakh for registering various documents over the past seven months.
The DIG Registration should immediately lodge a complaint against the officer concerned and not initiate departmental inquiry as a delaying tactics, the anti-corruption body demanded.
