Bryan Hughes has hailed news that Wrexham’s Centre of Excellence will be returning to Colliers Park for the next three seasons years and is hopeful of striking a similar agreement for the first team.
The Football Association of Wales have undertaken a redevelopment of Colliers Park costing in excess of £4m to turn it into an elite training facility.
It was unveiled that the Dragons’ and the FAW have reached a three-year agreement for the Centre of Excellence to utilise the facilities at Colliers Park.
Wrexham are in the middle of their own plans to develop a training base at the former Groves High School, but Hughes is hopeful the Dragons’ first team will also be able to use the site.
“It is fantastic news, it is fantastic for the club,” said Hughes.
“It is important to build these links, especially the Welsh FA as they have taken over Colliers Park.
“Hopefully we can keep building with them. I know we are looking at plans to build our own training ground in the future, but I can’t see any reason why over the coming months we as a first team can’t use Colliers Park as well.
“I am sure we will be working behind the scenes as well to keep that close affiliation with them but with regards to the youth it is a fantastic news.”
Hughes continued: “It (Colliers Park) is something I would be keen to utilise, they have got great facilities down there and I’d be hoping for conversations, I am sure there will be conversations, and if we can use it and we can use each other on our doorstep it will only be beneficial for everyone.”

Centre of Excellence manager Dan Nolan said the decision for the youth team to return to Colliers would help the Dragons to develop stars of the future.
“I’m delighted that the Centre of Excellence is returning to the newly refurbished Colliers Park,” said Nolan.
“The opportunity to move to an elite facility is one that the club pursued to ensure that we can continue to develop each of our young players at a top standard.”
Colliers Park now boasts impressive facilities which include two full size training pitches and a state of the art 3G artificial pitch. A new and extended building at the facility now includes outstanding changing rooms, analysis rooms and medical facilities.
The Centre of Excellence includes players from under-9 age group through to the under-16s, who will now enjoy full use of the facilities with added support from the FAW Trust and Glyndwr University.
The announcement comes on the back of the recent senior international at the Racecourse , when the Wales men’s team faced Trinidad and Tobago in front of a full house .
Club director Spencer Harris added: “This is excellent for the development of our future stars and continues the relationships the WST is building on behalf of the Football Club with key partners that includes the FAW, which will be important in the future development of the club.”
