“Once the work order is given, it will take three years for the sub-station to be ready,” he said.
Lobo was speaking after inaugurating a new 200 KV transformer at Maddawaddo, Parra.
The Calangute legislator said Parra farmers have willingly parted with some of their land for the transformer and power cables passing over their fields as they were at the receiving end of low voltage and power fluctuations.
Until recently, farmers from Parra were up in arms over the electricity department’s decision to install power lines in their fields, and had even approached the high court over the issue.
Lobo also said the new transformer and electricity poles have been erected three metres away from the roadside in view of road accidents.
“Many accidents are occuring because electricity poles have been erected close to the roads. And due to this, a lot of people have been dying in such accidents. Poles should be placed at least three metres from the edge of the road,” Lobo said.
Sarpanch of Parra panchayat Delilah Lobo said 10 new transformers have been erected in Parra in the last few years.
This has vastly improved the electricity scenario in the village, she added.
