Prof Sangeeta Srivastava takes over as new VC of Allahabad State University

ALLAHABAD: Prof Sangeeta Srivastava, head of the department of Home Science of Allahabad University has been appointed as vice-chancellor of Allahabad State University. She has taken charge from the outgoing VC Prof Rajendra Prasad, on Tuesday.

Prof Srivastava is 10th professor of AU but just the second woman to get appointed VC of a university. Before her Prof Swatantra Bala Sharma of AU's Music department was appointed VC of Raja Man Singh Tomar Music University of MP.


Wife of senior judge Justice Vikram Nath of Allahabad High Court, Prof Srivastava was appointed lecturer in AU in 1989 when home science department was part of Biochemistry department. She has been serving as the head of the Home Science department since its inspection in 2002 when it got separated.

Having 30 years of teaching experience, Prof Srivastava has done her PhD under Prof PS Gupta of chemistry department, of AU.


Soon after joining as the second VC of this newly formed university, Prof Srivastava said, "I believe in teamwork and would strive to take the university to greater heights with the support of the team at the university as well as colleges affiliated to it."


Prof Srivastava said that she would work towards implementing the provisions of the new education policy of the government in the university and its colleges so as to bring about a qualitative improvement in academic and research.


"Our thrust area would be to uplift the overall image and standard of the university and its constituent colleges for which new skill based courses would be launched and exams would be conducted in a free and fair manner for which additional CCTV's and flying squad teams would be constituted", said the new VC.


She also said that she would also ensure that the ongoing work for the construction of the new building of the university at Naini is expedited so that the administrative functionary could be shifted in the new campus.
