PATNA: The Central Board of Secondary Education (
CBSE) has asked school principals to take action against those teachers who have made mistakes in evaluation of answer copies of Classes X and XII. The board has issued notification to the regional offices in this regard.
The CBSE officials at
Patna regional office (Bihar and
Jharkhand) told this newspaper that carelessness on the part of teachers has caused problems to several students. “The results of re-evaluation of answer copies of Classes X and XII of students were published in the first and second week of June. The re-evaluation had been done on the request of the students who were not satisfied with their results,” an official said.
According to sources, the CBSE is preparing a list of teachers who have made maximum mistakes in evaluation of answer copies. After blacklisting them from the examination work, the principals will be asked to take disciplinary action against such teachers.
Abha Chaudhary, a senior teacher (chemistry) of Notre Dame Academy and also a member of the re-evaluation process, said, “Errors on the part of examiners will leave a bad impression on people about the board,” she said. “There are a few examiners who check the answer copies very casually and give less marks to the students than what they deserve,” she added.
Ipshita Sharan, who teaches English at St Michael’s High School, also agreed that several examinees were very casual in evaluating answer sheets and awarding marks.
She said several mistakes on the part of examiners had surfaced during re-evaluation. Highlighting some problems, she said there was one question in Class XII English paper to omit one of the options. “The board later asked to award six marks to the students. However, in some cases, the examiners did not give the bonus marks to the examinees,” she said.
CBSE city coordinator Rajiv Ranjan Sinha said discrepancies were detected in some of the evaluated answer copies, but it was not on a large scale.
