GORAKHPUR: A murder accused carrying a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head was injured and captured during an encounter with police near the sports college in Chiluatal late on Monday night. Vaibhav, alias Golu, is admitted to BRD Medical College in police custody. A pistol has been found on him.
Circle officer (crime) Pravin Singh said police acted on a tip-off and intercepted Golu’s bike near the college around 9.30pm. He opened fire on policemen and tried to escape, but sustained a bullet wound on his leg in retaliatory fire.

“Golu, a resident of Chiluatal, is accused in a murder case triggered by a love triangle. On February 21, he had called his rival Nadeem to Ambedkar Park in Humayunpur for a compromise. But, Golu and three others shot Nadeem who died in hospital,” CO Singh said, adding that the key accused had been on the run since.
Golu has reportedly confessed that he used the same pistol, which he found lying on the ground at Khowamandi, to shoot at Nadeem in February and policemen on Monday night. Police are probing who owns the pistol. The three other accused in the murder are already in jail.
