Allahabad: Priyanka Patel, 24-year-old daughter-in-law of former BJP MLA from Soraon constituency, late Rang Bahadur Patel, was found hanging from the ceiling at her house in Teliyarganj locality under Shivkuti police station in Allahabad on Wednesday morning.
Shivkuti inspector, Umesh Kumar Singh told TOI, “We have sent the body for post mortem examination. We hope that the report of post mortem examination would reveal the cause of death and whether it was a case of suicide case or the woman was murdered”.
However, Ram Dulare Patel, father of the deceased woman, has lodged an FIR under section 498A, and 304 B of IPC and 3/4 of Dowry Act against three persons, including Priyanka’s husband Anurag Patel and two others, alleging that they had killed his daughter after he did not give Rs 5 lakh in dowry.
“On being informed by the family members who saw the woman hanging from ceiling, senior police officials rushed to the spot and carried out investigations. A team of forensic experts was also called to collect evidence,” said inspector Singh.
“Priyanka’s father has said in the complaint that his daughter’s marriage with Anurag was solemnised on May 5, 2018. Anurag is currently pursuing studies in Lucknow but was at home,” he added.
“During questioning, Anurag said that he and Priyanka had gone to sleep on Tuesday night, but when he woke up on Wednesday morning, he did not find her on the bed,” the inspector said.
“When he went to look for her, he found her hanging from the ceiling in another room. Investigations are under way,” police added.
