Suction well to be sunk in Panjapalli Dam to provide water to Dharmapuri Municipality

A suction well will be sunk in Panjapalli Dam at a cost of ₹45 lakh to meet the water needs of Dharmapuri Municipality. The Municipal Commissioner has been directed to expedite the project on a war-footing, as per the directions of Santhosh Babu, Principal Secretary to the government, Department of Information Technology, here on Wednesday.

Dr. Babu, as the government-designated monitoring officer to review the water situation in the district in view of the current drought, inspected the distribution of water supply through Hogenkkal pipelines at Chinnathadangam here on Wednesday. He interacted with the public and collected details such as the frequency of water supply, number of families, use of individual household toilets among others.

Later, Dr.Babu inspected the tanks in Moongilpatty under the Hogenakkal water distribution scheme, and reviewed the water situation in Palaccode, Marandahalli. He also inspected Panjapalli Chinnar dam.

According to the administration, 10 town panchayats, 251 panchayats, including a total of 3,191 villages, were being supplied 57 MLD of water. However, in view of the current drought and failed monsoons, the water supply has been augmented by 8 MLD, increasing it to 65 MLD, an administration release said.

Officials have been directed to ensure unhindered supply of drinking water to all hamlets and villages under the water supply scheme. Further, public have been urged to contact the 24-hour control room of the district administration on the toll free number 1077. All line departments were directed to coordinate with each other to ensure regular water supply.

District Collector S. Malarvizhi was present during the inspection by the Principal Secretary.
