Heavy rain forecast in east while thunderstorm in west Rajasthan

JAIPUR/JAISALMER/UDAIPUR: The Met department had warned that thunderstorm followed by lightning and gusty winds are likely to occur at a few places in east and west Rajasthan in the next 24 hours. With monsoon fast approaching the state, Jaisalmer reported the highest rainfall of the season at 55.5mm followed by Udaipur (Dabok) at 9.4mm.
The Met office forecast says, “A few places will witness light to moderate rainfall and heavy rains will occur at one or two places in eastern part of the state in the next 24 hours. Similarly, light to moderate rain followed by thunderstorm and dust storm (30 to 40 km/hr) could occur at isolated places in west Rajasthan.”
Many parts of the Jaisalmer district witnessed rains on Monday night and Tuesday morning. According to Met department 55.5mm rain was recorded and there was good flow of storm water into the dry Gadisar Lake after two years.
There has been information of good rains in Mohangarh and many canal areas in the district. Rain has brought cheers among farmers and people reeling under drought conditions. There were also reports of some house collapse in the district due to the rain.
After a long time, water has flowed into Gadisar Lake and many onlookers gathered around the historic lake to witness the event. The lake is a tourist attraction of the area. There were also reports of good rain at Ramdeora, Bhaniyana, Pokhran, Mohangarh, Lathi and other border villages.

Udaipur city received much-needed respite from heat and humidity with a good spell of rain on Tuesday afternoon. Majority of areas in the city received heavy to moderate showers that began pouring around 2pm. Commuters coming from Delhi Gate, Durga Nursery Road, Sikh Colony wade through water logged roads and auto rickshaws and taxi services came to a halt for some time.
Traffic movement through city roads was hit after 3pm with pedestrians suffering the most due to clogged drainages overflowing on the street. Inside the Walled City area like Ghantaghar, Moti Chohatta, Badbhuja Ghati heavy water running on the roads forced the customers to stay inside the shops while many two-wheelers were caught in water in low-lying areas.
