HYDERABAD: The child help desks and
CCTV surveillance at railway stations on the South Central Railway (SCR) prevented 2940 children from falling into the hands of child traffickers and
child labour gangs, over the last three years.
Child help desks were set up at major stations like Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Tirupati, Vijayawada, Hyderabad and Nanded with the purpose of keeping vigil at stations, coordinate with the concerned departments and provide immediate care and support to lonely children identified at stations.
"The rescued children include 2252 boys and 688 girls who include runaway children, child labour and orphans. In addition, 84 children who were bought to the stations for trafficking were rescued, and cases were registered against the offenders," said SCR in an official statement on Wednesday.
