A man is in a critical condition after he was allegedly hit in the head in a savage one-punch attack in Surfers Paradise.
The 28-year-old Southport man was allegedly struck by a 19-year-old man outside a nightclub on Orchid Avenue at about 1.20am before falling backwards and hitting his head on the ground.
The 19-year-old Victorian man has been charged with grievous bodily harm and common assault, and is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court later on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Southport man was allegedly struck by a 19-year-old man about 1.20am on Thursday before falling backwards and hitting his head on the ground, police say
The victim was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital where he has undergone extensive treatment overnight.
He remains in a critical condition and is fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit.
Is if believed the 19-year-old Victorian man also tried to start another fight just minutes before punching the victim.
He is currently being detained at the Southport Police Watchhouse.
