Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Tuesday said that no decision has so far been taken on the parole plea of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim.

“Anyone who is entitled for parole can ask for it, we can’t stop anyone,” said Mr. Khattar here.

He added that so far no decision has been taken and any decision that is in the interest of the State will be taken.

Request process

Mr. Khattar said that parole request is made to the jail superintendent, from there it is sent to the Deputy Commissioner concerned, who then asks for a report from the police. And then the DC will give his recommendations, he said.

“If we (government) will have a role to play, we will do so, if there’s no role of the government, it won’t,” he added.

The Dera chief, who is lodged at Rohtak’s Sunaria jail following conviction in two rape cases and murder of a journalist, had applied for parole for 42 days to undertake farming at his fields in Sirsa.
