Van den Berg set for medical?

Liverpool have reportedly won the race to sign Sepp van den Berg, with the defender booked in for a medical ahead of a £1.79million move according to the Telegraph.

Sampdoria failed with a £2.25million bid for him in January, but the Reds have landed him at a bargain fee, ahead of the likes of Bayern Munich and Ajax, with him having just a year left on his Zwolle contract.

Ajax sign Quincy Promes

Remember when Liverpool were repeatedly linked with Quincy Promes a couple years back?

Like Memphis Depay, another case of the Reds being tipped to sign one of Gini Wijnaldum’s mates.

Well obviously, it didn’t happen. The forward joined Sevilla from Spartak Moscow, but now he’s on the move again after just a year.

He’s signed for Ajax, which could free up rumoured Reds target David Neres to move on.

It’s all one big merry-go-round.

Luis Suarez appeals for penalty handball against goalkeeper

Whenever Luis Suarez is playing, supporters know he is going to appeal for anything and everything from first kick to last.

Especially if he thinks he can get a penalty.

Even ‘handballs’ by goalkeepers in the box!

Instinct took over for the former Liverpool forward when his low cross when blocked by shot-stopped Gabriel Arias in Uruguay’s 1-0 win over Chile at the Copa America last night.

Oh Luis, never change!

On this day - Liverpool sign Simon Mignolet

But will there be a seventh?

Favourite Mignolet memory, Reds fans?

'Liverpool could replace Salah with Pepe'

Liverpool could cash in on Mohamed Salah and replace him with Nicolas Pepe according to journalist Jonathan Northcroft.

While such a move is unlikely to happen this year, he believes the Reds would be tempted to cash in on the Egyptian should they receive a £200million bid in the future.

Speaking on The Transfer Window podcast, he admits Liverpool have no desire to sell but could end up replicating Philippe Coutinho’s departure when they invested in Virgil van Dijk and Alisson.

There’s no pressure, there’s no desire at the moment to sell.

But they are in that nice position now where if someone wants to offer Philippe Coutinho money, which probably wouldn’t be in the next year for Salah, but might come somewhere down the lime, they can present the head coach with the option, ‘what do you wanna do here?’

And they can also take into account whether the player wants to go, that was a position they obviously found themselves in with Coutinho.

So let’s say in a year’s time Real Madrid did materialise with £150m-£200m for Salah, the player wanted to go and Jurgen Klopp thought ‘well, that’s a good deal in terms of being able to reinvest in the squad.’ I think they’d be in position to do that and they would have things lined up.

And the way they have worked with transfers is the target they get they’ve been working on for at least a window, at least a season rather, if not longer a lot of them, and Pepe very much fits into that.

They’ve got pretty much everyone tied down, except James Milner, until at least 2022, some of them to 2024.

It will cost a lot of wages to do that, but they’ve just scooped about £96m by winning the Champions League. They have their record profits, they’re getting more and more money from gate receipts.

So I think it’s in a pretty good position Liverpool at the moment, and I guess one other position that they might be looking to strengthen this summer would be another goalkeeper with [Simon] Mignolet going.

But go back to the fact that I think most clubs would like to be in that position where really you’re trying to almost do admin with the squad and look at the very, very big ones, either for now or for later.

A lot of ifs and buts, here. Can say that about any player if someone is willing to spend £200million though!

Who is Sepp van den Berg?

Wonder no more! Chris Beesley has all you need to know here...

Sepp van den Berg highlights

Liverpool want a 17-year-old that 95% of Reds fans will have never heard of, never mind seen play.

Thankfully we live in the YouTube generation where it’s soooo easy to dig out highlights of players.

So what do we make of VDB, ladies and gents?

He’s Dutch, let the Virgil van Dijk comparisons begin...

Keita hails Salah

Naby Keita has revealed how Mohamed Salah took him under his wing during the midfielder’s first season at Liverpool.

And speaking to CAF, Keita revealed the effort Salah went to to help him settle at Anfield when asked about his relationship with the forward.

(We get on) very well, he always gives me some advice on the pitch in Liverpool.

He’s a nice guy who works hard. When he works at the gym, he always asks me to join him.

He looks after me like I’m his little brother.

Karius 'set to stay at Besiktas'

Besiktas manager Abdullah Avci keep Loris Karius at the club next season according to TRT Spor journalist Firat Gunayer.

Not sure why this is news or how many times the Turkish press can make this a story. It’s a two-year loan deal, lads!

Anyway, Gunayer reports Avci has been impressed by Karius and intends to persist with him as his first-choice goalkeeper.

Sepp van den Berg latest

Liverpool are hopeful of beating a host of Europe’s biggest clubs to the signing of Dutch wonderkid Sepp van den Berg.

The 17-year-old centre-back plays for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie.

The ECHO understands the Reds are keen to secure the young defender’s services but face competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Ajax.

Connor also writes while Van den Berg would not be an immediate first team signing, he is held in similar regard to Joe Gomez when Liverpool signed the defender from Charlton, while the next 72 hours are said to be crucial to a potential deal.
