Bid to smuggle sandalwood foiled, one arrested

The Peelamedu police arrested a man with nearly 40 kg of sandalwood which he attempted to smuggle along with another man in a car on Sunday.

According to the police, the patrol team found two men standing near a car parked on Tidel Park road around 10 p.m.

Though they tried to escape seeing the police vehicle, the policemen managed to catch A. Chandran (34) of Kallakurichi in Salem.

When interrogated, Chandran told the police that they were planning to smuggle the sandalwood to Kerala.

The police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Chandran’s accomplice.
