Allahabad: Youth Congress workers create ruckus over contaminated water supply

ALLAHABAD: Scores of Youth Congress activists under the banner of City Congress Committee (CCC), on Tuesday, created ruckus at the office of municipal commissioner located at the Prayagraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) premises, to mark their protest against the supply of contaminated water, hiked house tax and prevailing lack of sanitation across the city. The congressmen had brought samples of contaminated water bottles and garbage packed in the sweet-meat boxes to gift municipal corporation authorities.
The activities also exchanged verbal duel with police officials who were called up by municipal corporation authorities when congressmen forced them to drink contaminated water. The uproar at the office of municipal commissioner continued for more than two hours.
Youth Congress leader Haseeb Ahmad said “ Youth activists were staging a dharna at the office of municipal commissioner against supply of contaminated water, hiked house tax and prevailing insanitation condition across the city. He said “When assistant municipal commissioner came out to receive memorandum from Congressmen, the party workers started demanding to call the municipal commissioner or they would be continuing their agitation”.
The situation went bad to worse when youth congress workers made an abortive attempt to enter the working committee hall with the samples of contaminated water and garbage packets and municipal corporation authorities had to call police forces.
The police officials snatched the bottles of contaminated water and garbage packets from the congressmen resulting into heated verbal duels.

Hearing uproar at the office, the municipal commissioner came out of his office chamber, talked to congressmen and received the memorandum in support of their demand.
Meanwhile, city president Nafees Anwar alleged “ PMC authorities are not attending the complaints of congress corporators sincerely and further demanded to treat all corporators equally. The municipal commissioner assured to look into the demands of youth congress activists.
