PATNA:
Patna police on late Monday night arrested six persons who were involved in looting of jewellery worth around Rs 15 lakh from a showroom at Aparna Bank Colony under Rupapsur police station area in the city on June 12.
SSP Garima Malik on Tuesday said that out of around 400 grams of looted gold ornament, 107 grams were recovered along with 1.25 kilograms of silver ornaments from different locations on indication of the arrested criminals.
Malik said that the same criminals were involved in shooting a jewellery shop owner Rakesh Gupta during loot at Anand Bazaar under Danapur police station area on May 31. The criminals had shot at Gupta when he raised alarm resulting into gathering of people. Criminals had dropped the bag filled with looted ornaments on road while fleeing.
Malik said that arrested criminals were identified as Rajveer Singh of Amritsar, Rocky Kumar of Pethia Bazaar in Danapur, Vikash Kumar of Malsalami in Patna City, Monu Kumar and Sintu Kumar of Dalluchak in Khagaul.
Malik said that three country-made pistols, including two semi-automatic one, 26 live cartridges, Rs 45,000, four masks, two bike and nine cellphones, were recovered from their possession.
She said that the criminals had gathered at Nahar Road under Rupauspur police station and were planning to commit loot at two places which included a marble shop at Danapur.
“A raid was conducted when they had gathered after which the six were nabbed while few managed to flee,” she said, adding, the looted jewellery were from residences of the criminals.
She said that few of the arrested criminals had earlier been to jail too for involvement in loot and murder cases.
“Police would gather information from counterparts in Punjab if he was involved in criminals cases there too. It was yet not known if he was running any interstate gang. Further investigation was going on over it,” she added.
