Amid protests by BJP activists, Minister for Roads and Buildings, Housing and Legislative Affairs Vemula Prasanth Reddy performed bhoomi puja to laid foundation stone for TRS district office at DWACRA Bazaar adjacent to the Collectorate here on Monday.

MLCs D. Rajeswar and V.G. Goud, MLAs B. Ganesh Gupta and B. Govardhan, Mayor Akula Sujatha, TS REDCO Chairman S.A. Aleem, party district president E. Ganga Reddy, NUDA Chairman C. Prabhakar Reddy and party municipal Corporators were among those who were present.

Meanwhile, police foiled the attempts of BJP cadres to prevent bhoomi puja alleging that the ruling party allocating prime land, which values about ₹50 crore, for constructing party office was unethical. BJP city president Yendala Sudhakar, BJYM city president Roshanlal Bora and others were arrested and shifted to Four Town police station.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prasanth Reddy said the BJP has no moral right to protest against the construction of TRS party office when it took away prime land from the government at Nampally in Hyderabad for its State party office. It was the policy decision of the government to provide land for offices of all political parties, he said. He thanked Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for allotting the land. Mr. Prasanth Reddy said the building, to be constructed on one acre of land, would be available for party activists after Vijayadasami.
