KOTKAPURA: The Punjab government on Monday constituted a special investigation team(SIT), to be headed by assistant director-general of police (ADGP) law and order Ishwar Singh, to conduct investigation into the Saturday murder of Dera follower Mahinderpal Bittu in
Nabha jail as the
Dera Sacha Sauda followers initially stuck to their refusal to cremate his body.
The breakthrough came after a series of meetings between the district administration and the Dera committee on Monday. After this, the key accused in a four-year-old sacrilege case in Bargari, was cremated by his family at the cremation grounds, nearly a kilometre from the
Kotkapura naam charcha ghar.
Faridkot deputy commissioner Kumar Saurabh Raj revealed these details before a large gathering of Dera followers at Kotkapura Naam charcha ghar on Monday evening. He also announced that the state government had decided to provide adequate security to the Dera followers facing cases of sacrilege either lodged in jail or out on bail.
The government will take up the matter with designated courts about putting the cases related to sacrilege on fast track with day-to-day hearing, he added.
